Description
Calcium/Calmodulin-Dependent Protein Kinase Type II Subunit Beta (CAMK2B) is a cytoplasmic protein that belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase family and the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase subfamily. CAMK2B is a calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase that functions autonomously after Ca2+/calmodulin-binding and autophosphorylation. It is involved in dendritic spine and synapse formation, neuronal plasticity and regulation of sarcoplamic reticulum Ca2+ transport in skeletal muscle. In neurons, CAMK2B plays an essential structural role in the reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton during plasticity by binding and bundling actin filaments in a kinase-independent manner.
