Description
TGF alpha is a mitogenic polypeptide that is able to bind to the EGF receptor/EGFR and to act synergistically with TGF beta to promote anchorage-independent cell proliferation in soft agar.
-
Protein name
Protransforming growth factor alpha
-
Protein short names
TFGA; WA-1; TGFA; WA1; WAVED 1; TRANSFORMING GROWTH FACTOR ALPHA; PROTRANSFORMING GROWTH FACTOR ALPHA; TRANSFORMING GROWTH FACTOR; TGF-ALPHA; ALPHA

Uniprot ID
P01135
-
Gene Name
TGFA
-
Source/Expression Host
E. coli
-
Expression Plasmid/cDNA
A DNA sequence encoding the human TGFa (P01135-1) (Val40-Ala89) was expressed and purified.
-
Protein Species
Human
-
Molecular weight
The recombinant human TGFa consists of 50 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 5.6 kDa. The apparent molecular mass of it is approximately 13 kDa in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.
-
Purity
> 90 % as determined by SDS-PAGE

Activity
1. Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized human TGFa (cat:501636) at 10 μg/ml (100 μl/well) can bind human EGFR-Fc (Cat:504095). The EC50 of human EGFR-Fc (Cat:504095) is 20-60 ng/ml.
2. Measured in a cell proliferation assay using Balb/3T3 mouse embryonic fibroblast cells.
The ED50 for this effect is 0.1-0.5ng/mL. -
Validations
