Background
PMP2 (peripheral myelin protein-2, also known as P2) is one of the major proteins of peripheral myelin and appears to be related to the transport of fatty acids or the metabolism of myelin lipids.P2 constitutes up to 15% of total protein of peripheral nervous system (PNS) myelin. It is also present in small amounts in central nervous system (CNS) myelin, being abundant in spinal cord and brain stem myelin. As a structural protein, P2 is thought to stabilize the myelin membranes.
