Background
PAS (Per-Arnt-Sim) domains regulate the function of many intracellular signaling pathways in response to both extrinsic and intrinsic stimuli. PAS domain-containing serine/threonine-protein kinase (PASK, also termed PAS-kinase or PASKIN) is an evolutionarily conserved nutrient responsive protein kinase. PASK links energy flux and protein synthesis in yeast and regulates glycogen synthesis in mammals. It has also been implicated in glucose-stimulated insulin production in pancreatic beta-cells.
