  • Background
NPBWR1 (GPR7) and NPBWR2 (GPR8) are two structurally related G-protein coupled receptors. These two receptors share high sequence identity to each other and significant similarity with opioid and somatostatin receptors (PMID: 10407191). Neuropeptide B (NPB) and neuropeptide W (NPW) are endogenous peptide ligands of these receptors. NPBWR1 was found highly conserved in both human and rodents while NPBWR2 gene was not found in the rodent genomes (PMID: 7590751; 10407191). NPBWR1 and NPBWR2 are implicated in energy homeostasis, pain, and emotion (PMID: 23515889).
