Background
MAPK11(Mitogen-activated protein kinase 11) is also named as PRKM11, SAPK2, SAPK2B,p38b and belongs to the MAP kinase subfamily. It is one of the four p38 MAPKs which play an important role in the cascades of cellular responses evoked by extracellular stimuli such as proinflammatory cytokines or physical stress leading to direct activation of transcription factors. In mouse brain, both p38a and p38b are present in neurons, while p38b is also expressed in glial cells(PMID:15748168).
