Background
KCNK18, also named as TRESK and TRIK, is an outward rectifying potassium channel which produces rapidly activating outward rectifier K+ currents. It may function as background potassium channel that sets the resting membrane potential. KCNK18 is inhibited by arachidonic acid and other naturally occurring unsaturated free fatty acids. KCNK18 channel activity is enhanced by volatile anesthetics, such as isoflurane. The gene of KCNK18 maps to chromosome 10q26.11, and encodes a 384-amino acid protein with a predicted unmodified molecular weight of 44 kDa. This antibody can be used to detect endogenous KCNK18, however, the reason for the additional band of 130-140 kDa is still unknown.
