Background
Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs), a major group of pre-mRNA-binding proteins, associate with nascent RNA polymerase II transcripts to form hnRNP complexes that participate in various steps of mRNA processing as well as the export, translation and stability of mRNAs[PMID:11994740]. Protein hnRNPU, another hnRNPs family member, is able to stabilize specific mRNAs by binding to their 3′-untranslated regions (UTRs). Moreover, hnRNPU has a regulatory function during the initial phases of transcription activation by affecting the activity of RNA Pol II [PMID:15711563, 17174306].
