  • Description
    The sequence of chain A is shown. Chain B is ALLHHGLNCAKGVLA, an N-terminally 3-residue truncated version of chain A. Appending a Lys at the N-terminus of chain A results in a peptide called HG1, resistant to proteases such as trypsin, chymotrypsin, and MMP-7. An HG1 isomer with substitutions of Gln-3 and Lys-19, named haloganan, shows potent antimicrobial activity under conditions containing human serum and/or wound fluid. Halocidin exhibits antibacterial activity and is sourced from hemocytes of Halocynthia aurantium.
