  • Background
Excision repair cross-complementing 3/xeroderma pigmentosum B (ERCC3/XPB) DNA helicase, is an essential ATP-dependent DNA helicase that functions as an integral component of the transcription factor IIH complex. ERCC3 is involved in initiation of basal transcription and global genome repair as well as in transcription-coupled repair (TCR) [PMID:19942596]. At the cellular level, a defect in ERCC3 results in high UV sensitivity, reduced post-UV RNA synthesis recovery and decreased DNA repair due to defective NER [PMID:16947863].
