Description
CNTF is a survival factor for various neuronal cell types. Seems to prevent the degeneration of motor axons after axotomy.
-
Protein name
Ciliary neurotrophic factor
-
Protein short names
CNTF; MGC41235; HCNTF; AI429687
-
Uniprot ID
Q544D1
-
Gene Name
Cntf
-
Source/Expression Host
E. coli
-
Expression Plasmid/cDNA
A DNA sequence encoding the mouse CNTF (NP_740756.1) (Ala2-Met198) was expressed with a polyhistidine tag at the N-terminus.
-
Protein Species
Mouse
-
Molecular weight
The recombinant mouse CNTF consists of 215 amino acids and predicts a molecular mass of 24.7 KDa. It migrates as an approximately 25 KDa band in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.
-
Purity
> 95 % as determined by SDS-PAGE
-
Activity
1. Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized mouse CNTF (cat:502341) at 10 μg/ml (100 μl/well) can bind biotinylated rat CNTFR-His (Cat:501299). The EC50 of biotinylated rat CNTFR-His (Cat:501299) is 5-12 ng/ml.
2. Measured in a cell proliferation assay using TF-1 human erythroleukemic cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 0.1-0.5 μg/mL. -
Validations
