Description
CNTF is a survival factor for various neuronal cell types. Seems to prevent the degeneration of motor axons after axotomy.
-
Protein name
Ciliary neurotrophic factor
-
Protein short names
AI429687; CNTF; MGC41235; HCNTF
-

Gene Name
CNTF
-
Source/Expression Host
E. coli
-
Expression Plasmid/cDNA
A DNA sequence encoding the human CNTF (NP_000605.1) (Ala 2-Met 200) was expressed, with a polyhistide tag at the N-terminus.
-
Protein Species
Human
-
Molecular weight
The recombinant human CNTF consisting of 214 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of 24.5 kDa. The apparent molecular mass of the protein is approximately 27-30 kDa in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.
-
Purity
> 90 % as determined by SDS-PAGE
-
Activity
1. Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized human His-CNTF (cat:500327) at 10 μg/ml (100 μl/well) can bind biotinylated rat CNTFR-His (Cat:501299). The EC50 of biotinylated rat CNTFR-His (Cat:501299) is 60-140 ng/ml.
2. Measured in a cell proliferation assay using TF-1 human erythroleukemic cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 1-4 μg/mL. -
Validations
