Description
On ligand binding, forms a receptor complex consisting of two type II and two type I transmembrane serine/threonine kinases. Type II receptors phosphorylate and activate type I receptors which autophosphorylate, then bind and activate SMAD transcriptional regulators. Receptor for BMP-2 and BMP-4. Positively regulates chondrocyte differentiation through GDF5 interaction (PubMed:24098149).

Expression Plasmid/cDNA
A DNA sequence encoding the extracellular domain (Met 1-Arg 152) of mouse ALK3 (NP_033888.2) precursor was expressed, fused with a polyhistidine tag at the C-terminus.

Protein Species
Mouse

Molecular weight
The recombinant mouse ALK3 consists of 140 amino acids after removal of the signal peptide and has a predicted molecular mass of 15.8 kDa. In SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, the apparent molecular mass of rm ALK3 is approximately 30 kDa due to glycosylation.

Purity
> 97 % as determined by SDS-PAGE
-
Activity
Measured by its ability to inhibit recombinant human BMP4 induced activity in MC3T3-E1 Mouse osteoblastic cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 0.5-2 μg/ml in the presence of 50 ng/ml of recombinant human BMP4.
