Background
Archain 1 (ARCN1), also known as delta-COP, is a subunit of the coat protein I (COPI) complex, which comprises one of the protein coats that mediate vesicle budding from the membrane. Protein sequences of ARCN1 are well conserved among eukaryotes and this protein may play a fundamental role in eukaryotic cell biology. It has similarities to heat shock proteins and clathrin-associated proteins, and may be involved in vesicle structure or trafficking. The gene of ARCN1 has been identified in chromosome band 11q23.3, and sequencing of cDNAs suggests that at least two forms of mRNA with alternative 5' ends are present. (PMID: 7782067; 20502676)
