  • Description
The tropoelastin fragment described, PGAIPG, is a repeated hexapeptide sequence found in the primary structure of bovine tropoelastin, the soluble precursor of the extracellular matrix protein elastin. This hexapeptide is encoded in multiple exons of the tropoelastin gene and is present in both bovine and human tropoelastin, though its spatial arrangement differs between species. PGAIPG is classified as a hydrophobic peptide and serves as a binding ligand for a 67-kDa cell surface receptor, which is expressed on fetal bovine auricular chondrocytes and ligamentum nuchae fibroblasts.
Biochemical studies utilizing synthetic peptides and recombinant deletion proteins derived from tropoelastin have demonstrated that PGAIPG induces directed migration of fetal bovine ligamentum nuchae fibroblasts, a process mediated by its interaction with the 67-kDa elastin receptor. This peptide is structurally related to previously identified elastin receptor ligands, such as VGVAPG, and contains amino acids with small hydrophobic side chains at specific positions. The identification of PGAIPG as a receptor ligand expands the understanding of the molecular interactions between tropoelastin and cell surface receptors involved in cellular adhesion and migration.
  • Storage Guidelines

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
