  • Description

This product is a recombinant fragment of the human TATA-box-binding protein (TBP), encompassing residues 160-339. TBP is a core general transcription factor essential for initiating RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription. The selected fragment is a stable, soluble unit optimized for structural and biochemical studies, providing researchers with a reliable tool for investigating transcriptional mechanisms.

The TATA-box-binding protein (TBP) is a critical component of the TFIID basal transcription factor complex, which plays a major role in the initiation of RNA polymerase II (Pol II)-dependent transcription. TFIID recognizes and binds promoters with or without a TATA box via TBP, promoting assembly of the pre-initiation complex (PIC). TBP forms the TFIID-A module within the complex and binds to and bends promoter DNA during PIC formation. Additionally, TBP is involved in RNA polymerase I and III transcription as part of the SL1/TIF-IB and BRF2-containing complexes, respectively. TBP is localized to the nucleus, where it functions at the core of transcriptional machinery, making it fundamental to gene expression regulation.
