Description
Latarcin 1 is a cationic antimicrobial peptide (AMP) composed of 26 amino acid residues with a net charge of +10. It is derived from the venom of the spider Lachesana tarabaevi and exhibits a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The peptide adopts an α-helical conformation, which is crucial for its interaction with microbial membranes and subsequent antimicrobial effects. Latarcin 1 has been shown to possess both antibacterial and anticancer properties, making it a molecule of interest in the study of host defense peptides.
Structural studies reveal that Latarcin 1's mode of action involves membrane permeabilization, leading to cell death. The peptide's high positive charge and amphipathic nature facilitate its binding to negatively charged microbial membranes. Its three-dimensional structure and hydrophobicity profile are key determinants of its membrane activity. Latarcin 1's ability to disrupt membrane integrity while exhibiting low cytotoxicity to host cells underscores its potential as a template for designing novel antimicrobial agents.

About TFA salt
Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.
Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.
Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.
In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
