Description
Hym-355 is a neuropeptide originally isolated from the freshwater hydrozoan Hydra magnipapillata. Its amino acid sequence is FPQSFLPRG-NH2, featuring a characteristic C-terminal amidation. Research has demonstrated that Hym-355 can trigger oocyte maturation and subsequent spawning in the marine hydrozoan jellyfish Cytaeis uchidae, although its stimulatory effect is weaker compared to other peptides like Hym-53. The biological activity is dependent on the amidated C-terminus, as the non-amidated form, Hym-355-OH, is ineffective.
Immunohistological analyses have shown that neurons positive for the C-terminal PRG-NH2 sequence of Hym-355 are present in the ovarian ectodermal epithelium of Cytaeis uchidae. The peptide does not act directly on isolated oocytes, indicating its target is likely somatic cells within the ovarian tissue. These findings suggest Hym-355 functions as a signaling molecule, potentially involved in neuropeptide-mediated pathways regulating reproductive events in cnidarians.

About TFA salt
Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.
Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.
Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.
In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
