  • Description

Histatin-1 is a histidine-rich peptide found in human saliva, belonging to a family of peptides exclusive to higher primates. It is encoded by the HTN1 gene and is secreted by the parotid and submandibular glands. The peptide is characterized by seven histidine residues and a phosphorylated serine at residue 2.

Scientific studies demonstrate that Histatin-1 specifically promotes cellular adhesion. It significantly enhances cell-substrate adhesion, increasing the ability of adherent cells to attach and spread on surfaces, with an effective concentration (EC50) of 1 µM. This effect is not observed with other histatins, indicating specificity. Furthermore, Histatin-1 strengthens cell-cell adhesion, as evidenced by increased transepithelial electrical resistance in epithelial cell layers, suggesting a role in enhancing epithelial integrity. The peptide is internalized by cells and its activity is linked to its specific amino acid sequence and phosphorylation state.

  • Storage Guidelines

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
