Description
[D-Ala2] Met-Enkephalin, amide is a synthetic peptide analog of the endogenous opioid peptide Met-enkephalin. This modification involves the substitution of the second amino acid residue with a D-alanine, which enhances its stability against enzymatic degradation. The peptide exhibits opioid activity, primarily through interaction with opioid receptors. In experimental models, [D-Ala2] Met-Enkephalin, amide has been shown to inhibit the release of oxytocin. This inhibitory effect is reversible by naloxone, indicating a receptor-mediated mechanism. The peptide's action is observed in response to both cholinergic stimulation and physiological stimuli, suggesting a role in modulating neuroendocrine pathways.
