Description
FK-13 is a short cationic antimicrobial peptide derived from the central region (residues 17 to 29) of the human cathelicidin LL-37. It represents a truncated fragment that retains core structural and functional properties. This peptide exhibits microbicidal activity against a range of microorganisms.
Studies indicate that FK-13, particularly in its amidated form (FK-13-NH2), demonstrates significant inhibitory effects on microbial growth. Its mechanism is associated with its cationic and amphipathic nature, which facilitates interaction with microbial membranes. Compared to the full-length LL-37 peptide, shorter derivatives like FK-13 are noted for their efficient synthetic production and retained bioactivity profile.

About TFA salt
Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.
Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.
Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.
In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
