Description
C14R is a synthetic antimicrobial peptide with a broad spectrum of activity. It is a rationally designed, pore-forming peptide that is cationic and amphipathic, consisting of 16 amino acid residues with a molecular weight of approximately 2 kDa. The peptide exhibits potent antibacterial effects against all six pathogenic species of the ESKAPE group, including multidrug-resistant strains such as vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Its primary mechanism of action involves interaction with microbial membranes, leading to disruption and pore formation, which results in loss of membrane integrity and cell death. Studies demonstrate that C14R also inhibits biofilm formation by certain Gram-positive pathogens. The peptide's activity is characterized by low cytotoxicity toward mammalian cells, and it has shown efficacy against fungal pathogens as well, indicating a broad-spectrum antimicrobial profile.

About TFA salt
Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.
Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.
Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.
In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
