  • Description

The BMP-2 mimicking oligopeptide (serine-serine-valine-proline-threonine, SSVPT) is a short peptide sequence designed to replicate the osteoinductive activity of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2). This oligopeptide was synthesized using standard Fmoc solid-phase peptide synthesis and was covalently conjugated to the surface of nano-sized hydroxyapatite (HA) via Michael-type addition. The p-HA, or peptide-functionalized nano-HA, served as a reinforcement phase within a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) cement matrix.

Incorporation of the SSVPT peptide onto the HA surface aimed to enhance the bioactivity of the composite material. Studies demonstrated that the presence of this BMP-2 mimicking oligopeptide could accelerate the deposition of apatite on the material surface and promote the adhesion and proliferation of human fetal osteoblasts (hFOB). Furthermore, the oligopeptide contributed to increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in these cells, indicating an enhancement of osteogenic differentiation. The combination of HA and the SSVPT oligopeptide exhibited a synergistic effect on the material's overall bioactivity.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
