  • Description

Bacteriocin peptide PlnE is a ribosomally synthesized antimicrobial peptide produced by certain strains of Lactobacillus plantarum. It is encoded within the pln locus, specifically as part of the highly conserved plnEFI operon. The peptide is synthesized as a 56-amino acid prepeptide featuring a characteristic double-glycine leader motif, which is cleaved to yield a 33-amino acid mature, cationic peptide.

The production of PlnE is regulated by a quorum-sensing mechanism. Its genetic locus exhibits a mosaic structure with variable regions governing regulation and bacteriocin repertoire, alongside conserved operons involved in transport and peptide maturation. The peptide itself is classified among the class II bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria.

  • Storage Guidelines

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
