  • Description

Bacteriocin Leucocin B-TA33a is a 31-residue polypeptide produced by Leuconostoc mesenteroides strain TA33a. It belongs to class II bacteriocins, characterized as small, heat-stable, non-lanthionine-containing peptides. Unlike typical class IIa bacteriocins, Leucocin B-TA33a lacks the conserved YGNGV motif and a disulfide bridge. It exhibits a narrow antibacterial spectrum, primarily inhibiting closely related bacteria within the Leuconostoc and Weissella genera.

Structural studies using circular dichroism reveal that Leucocin B-TA33a adopts a partially amphiphilic α-helical conformation in membrane-mimicking environments, particularly in the presence of anionic surfactants like sodium dodecyl sulfate. This helical propensity, centered around residues 3 to 17, facilitates its adsorption at lipophilic-hydrophilic interfaces. Despite high sequence homology with mesenterocin 52B, Leucocin B-TA33a displays distinct bactericidal kinetics and inhibitory profiles against sensitive strains.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
