  • Description

Alpha-CGRP (23-37) is a short C-terminal fragment of human calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), consisting of 15 amino acid residues derived from the full-length 37-amino acid neuropeptide. CGRP is a neurotransmitter peptide widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous system of mammals. The C-terminal region of the CGRP molecule is important for binding to CGRP receptors, but lacks the structural requirements for receptor activation. As a result, CGRP(23-37) functions as a competitive antagonist at CGRP receptors, producing a rightward displacement of the concentration-response curve to human alpha-CGRP without depressing the maximal response. In the guinea pig isolated left atria, this fragment exhibits weak but significant CGRP antagonist activity, with an apparent pA2 value of 4.81.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
