Description
(Ala1)-PAR-4 (1-6) amide (mouse) is a synthetic hexapeptide corresponding to the amino-terminal tethered ligand sequence of the mouse protease-activated receptor-4 (PAR-4). PAR-4 belongs to the family of G protein-coupled protease-activated receptors, which are activated by proteolytic cleavage of their amino-terminal exodomain, exposing a new terminus that acts as a tethered ligand to activate the receptor. The peptide sequence mimics this unmasked ligand, thereby enabling receptor activation independently of protease cleavage.
In the mouse PAR-4 sequence, the first residue of the native tethered ligand is replaced by alanine in this analog, a modification often employed to enhance stability or alter receptor interaction properties. This peptide is commonly used experimentally to selectively activate PAR-4 and to study its signaling functions in various cell types and tissues.
