Description
The 3DSS peptide is a synthetic tripeptide consisting of multiple repeats of the aspartate-serine-serine (DSS) sequence. This sequence is derived from dentin phosphoprotein and is known for its high affinity for calcium phosphate compounds. The peptide facilitates the uniform deposition of hydroxyapatite nanocrystals onto enamel surfaces from free ions in solution.
Experimental characterization demonstrates that treatment with 3DSS peptide promotes the formation of apatite with a smaller crystalline size. This results in a more uniform surface morphology with reduced average roughness. Furthermore, the treated surfaces exhibit increased nanohardness and elastic modulus compared to untreated controls, indicating enhanced mechanical properties due to the biomimetic mineral deposition.
