  • Description

Peptide 1037 is a small synthetic cationic peptide with the amino acid sequence KRFRIRVRV-NH2. It belongs to the class of cationic antimicrobial peptides (CAMPs), which are characterized by their ability to interact with bacterial membranes through electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions. The peptide was modified by introducing a cysteine residue at its N-terminus, leading to the spontaneous formation of a dimer through a disulfide bond. This dimerization significantly enhanced the peptide's antimicrobial activity, demonstrating a 60-fold increase in efficacy against certain bacterial strains compared to the monomeric form.

The dimer retains the structural and functional properties of the original peptide, including its cationic and amphiphilic characteristics, which facilitate membrane interactions. The modification and dimerization process did not compromise the peptide's inherent bioactivity, as it maintained its ability to interact with microbial membranes and inhibit bacterial growth. This approach highlights the potential of strategic peptide modifications to amplify antimicrobial properties while preserving core functional attributes.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
